Sōran Bushi – Yosakoi Dance Performance
About This Event
Sōran Bushi (ソーラン節) Performance
Performance by Heegan no Nam. Experience the power and rhythm of Sōran Bushi, a traditional Japanese folk song and dance originating from Hokkaidō, historically sung by herring fishermen as they hauled heavy nets from the sea. The spirited chants and driving beat echo the calls of fishermen at work, transforming labour into music and movement.
Today, Sōran Bushi is performed at festivals, schools, and cultural celebrations across Japan. The dynamic choreography features strong, grounded movements that symbolize ocean waves, net pulling, and the resilience of coastal fishing communities. This energetic performance brings the strength and communal spirit of Japan’s maritime heritage to life.
