Canada Milk Vetch

Posted In:

Canada Milk Vetch is great for attracting hummingbirds, birds, butterflies, and bees. The flowers and seed heads are excellent for bouquets, and the leaves have great texture. This is an excellent plant for heavy clay soils. It is deer repellent and spreads via rhizomatous growth. Good for use in restoration gardens and erosion control. Extreme cold is not tolerated. Plants spread via rhizomes and can thus be controlled by mowing or pruning.

On Cultivation

Position it in sunlight or dappled shade. It prefers moist soil but can survive in dry conditions. Though it is slow to establish, it can grow in a variety of soils and conditions, but it prefers moist, well-drained areas. It is also suitable for growing in containers in the winter or all year. Acidic soil (pH 5 or higher). Plants require a fertile loam with good drainage. Canada Milk Vetch blooms for about two months in the summer.
