Partners: Botanical Garden

Open to the public since 1986, the Botanical Garden of Faial consists of the altitude pole, in Pedro Miguel, and the central pole, in the parish of Flamengos, where the Seed Bank of the Azores is located. Its mission concerns the conservation and study of the natural flora of the Azores, scientific dissemination and environmental education. The Botanical Garden was distinguished, in 2011, by Turismo de Portugal with an honorable mention in the “Requalification of public project” award.

The Lisbon Botanical Garden (JBL) is classified as a national monument and is part of the historical centre of the Portuguese capital. Its 4 hectares are a treasure trove of plant specimens from different parts of the world, featuring cycads, gymnosperms, palm trees, tropical fig trees, and much much more. In terms of heritage, JBL is home to collections of natural objects, a xylotheque, a herbarium with more than 220,000 leaves, and also includes a seed bank with over 1200 species as well as a DNA bank with 1 to 5 samples of each endangered Portuguese flora species. In JBL you can also visit the Butterfly Garden, the first greenhouse made for breeding butterflies of the Iberian fauna.

The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra, located in the heart of the city, has as missions research, conservation of biodiversity, education and dissemination of science, with special focus on raising awareness of the importance of plant diversity, climate change and sustainable use of resources.
This living museum extends over almost 12 hectares, where diverse collections of plants, some of which are centuries old, transport us to different regions of the world.

This center is dedicated to the conservation and management of the terrestrial Canarian Flora through three main areas of action: research, environmental education (including dissemination) and the maintenance and exhibition of living collections of terrestrial plants , especially endemic to the Canary Islands. and Macaronesia, but also from areas of the planet that maintain floristic connections with the Canary Islands.

The Royal Botanical Garden of Córdoba is located next to the Guadalquivir and has 7.5 hectares of landscaped area where we can find different spaces in which to discover flora and nature from different parts of the world. It brings together social, educational and scientific functions, which are carried out through visits, educational and cultural activities, exhibitions, conferences, congresses, scientific and outreach publications, conservation programs for Andalusian plant genetic resources and botanical research.

Around the historical garden is the botanical garden, where the collections of plants are organized according to scientific criteria. So you can see near the entrance a collection of aquatic plants, another of “prehistoric plants”, “the rockery of biodiversity”, a greenhouse with insectivores, bromeliads and orchids; a collection of African plants and another of bamboos. To the north you can visit the route “Around the world in 80 trees”; the collection of palm trees, which enriches the existing one in the historic garden; a collection of varieties of vines from Malaga and another of olive trees in the area of ​​”The plants of our land”. The upper strip of the historic garden is covered by the forest route and the viewpoint route, both with native plants. In the southernmost part is located the collection of cacti and succulents.

A living museum in the center of Madrid full of biodiversity. The garden boasts 20 acres of land and houses approximately 30,000 different types of flowers and plants, more than 5,500 species of plants from all over the planet, including approximately 1,500 different species of trees. It is a garden lover’s dream!

Located in Blanes, in Costa Brava, the Marimurtra Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens on the Mediterranean. At the top of steep cliffs running along the sea, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramic views over the coastline and get to know more than four thousand plant species, most of them exotic ones, as well as several specimens that are extraordinary because of their age or size.

Located on a gentle slope in Montjuïc Park , the Barcelona Botanical Garden offers visitors a different walk in each season of the year through the vegetation of the five regions of the world with a Mediterranean climate.
The function of the Garden is to preserve and publicize collections of Mediterranean plants from around the world. Among its main objectives are the conservation and documentation of Catalonia’s natural heritage, acting as a disseminator of botanical and naturalist culture and promoting knowledge and respect for nature.
