Barren Strawberry is a perennial plant that produces an abundance of vibrant yellow daisy flowers at the ends of its stems from early to late spring. These flowers are most effective when planted in groups. Its round, compound leaves retain their green colour throughout the growing season, even into the winter months.
Barren strawberries thrive with routine care and maintenance. While they do not necessitate extensive pruning, dieback removal and shaping can enhance their growth and overall appearance.

Barren Strawberry is an ideal choice for edging and groundcover. It thrives in woodland gardens and on shady banks, and its natural habitat is open deciduous woods. While it prefers partial shade, it can tolerate a range of conditions, from full sun to full shade. In contrast, although it is drought-tolerant, it prefers moist soil.
Waldsteinia fragarioides can be propagated by sowing seeds in early spring. To enhance germination, stratification, which simulates dormancy, is recommended. This can be achieved by placing the seeds in a refrigerator for up to one month prior to sowing.
Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in both summer and winter to conserve soil moisture and protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates.
Companion plant suggestions include Neviusia alabamensis, Rhododendron periclymenoides, Viburnum acerifolium, Eurybia divaricata, Uvularia grandiflora, Geranium maculatum and Carex digitalis
