MeetP12 in Gatineau Park at 9:30 AM

Description:  Our walk starts at the Meech Lake canoe launch parking lot P12.  We have two options.  The option chosen will depend on weather and trail conditions.  Our destination will be either Western Lookout or Ramparts Lookout.  The Western Lookout option is about 7 kilometers long.  The Ramparts Lookout option is about 8 to 10 kilometers depending on our exact route.  The hike will traverse a variety of habitats.  Halfway along we will stop for lunch at one of the lookouts.  The trail climbs significantly and is relatively strenuous but we will plan to move at a moderately slow but steady rate while paying particular attention to the botanical features along the way.  We should see a wide variety of spring ephemerals and early blooming shrubs. We should also see/hear a wide variety of birds.  There is also the possibility of seeing various mammals.

Suggested items to bring: Good trail shoes; water; lunch; binoculars. Black flies could be out so you might want to carry insect repellent.

Try to carpool as the P12 parking lot can fill up. Note: If it is raining, the trip will be postponed to the following day.

Please register for the trip beforehand by emailing Greg at gjlutick@gmail.com
