Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens

Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens in Mississauga, one of Canada’s largest public gardens, boasts an extensive collection of cold-hardy rhododendrons and azaleas, meticulously cultivated by the late Dr. Joseph Brueckner. A renowned hybridizer, Dr. Brueckner developed over 19 unique rhododendron hybrids designed to thrive in the climate of Eastern Canada. His contributions have not only enriched this garden but have also garnered international recognition, with his hybrids featured in esteemed locations such as England’s Exbury Gardens.

Nestled along the northern shoreline of Lake Ontario, the garden thrives in a distinctive microclimate, protected by towering white pine trees. This environment is ideally suited for the growth of these plants. From early May to late June, visitors can revel in a vibrant display of blooms. The garden’s design seamlessly integrates companion perennials and shrubs, ensuring year-round interest and beauty.​

Beyond its botanical significance, the garden presents scenic walking trails that traverse forested regions and culminate at a secluded pebbly beach on the shore of Lake Ontario. These trails offer picturesque vistas and a serene ambiance, creating an ideal setting for visitors.
