Description

We invite you to help us grow rare, native trees from locally collected seeds. We will provide you with seeds. It entails sowing the seeds in pots in your yards or on your balconies until the seedlings emerge. Seedlings will be placed in our communities to support Ottawa’s native tree canopy. We successfully piloted this idea 2 years ago and produced a few hundred new trees. For our next phase, we have prioritized twenty-five (25) rare native species. It’s an exciting but important project.

Canadensis Botanical Garden Society, in close cooperation with the Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club, launched an initiative to grow rare native trees. As part of the proof-of-concept phase for this project, Canadensis created a native tree nursery, and the project received enabling funding and support from the City of Ottawa and Ritchie Feed and Seed. GardeningCalendar is a partner in the project for plant documentation.
