Event Details

With all the snow we’ve been having, it will be nice to start thinking ahead to our summer plantings. This month’s meeting features a local flower grower, Natalie Tovell from Farmview Gardens in Kinburn who, with her husband Rob, have developed and planted flower beds on their just over one-acre property.

Fast forward a few years and they now provide fresh cut flowers on a seasonal basis. Natalie will discuss how to get started with seeds, the process, the care of seedlings and the planting out process, just in time to inspire us in our own endeavours.

Presenter

Natalie Tovell

Natalie and her husband Rob live on Farmview Road just outside of Kinburn near Hunt
Line. They both grew up with families who gardened – mostly vegetable gardens
and have always tried to have some form of garden no matter where we
lived.  Their first home together had a tiny backyard but they had lots of
different plants growing in it including a grapevine that provided us with
an abundance of grapes.
When they moved to West Carleton 20 years ago, they
were able to continue vegetable gardening and did their best to maintain the
existing flower beds.  Four years ago they decided to act on a dream Natalie had since
moving to this property to have a cut flower garden and sell bouquets at a
stand at the road, and by subscription.
