Description: Lesley Howes, a dedicated biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service, has been at the helm of the North American Bird Banding Program for an impressive twenty-two years. This program is a cornerstone for migratory bird research, providing critical data that scientists and conservationists rely on to understand and protect these avian travelers. With the advent of new technologies, we are now uncovering groundbreaking insights into the migratory patterns and lifestyles of birds, paving the way for innovative conservation strategies.

The Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club, founded in 1863 and incorporated in 1879, is the oldest natural history club in Canada. Around 900 members participate in many aspects of the natural world, from birding to botanizing, investigation to publication, conservation to cooperation.
