Native Plants and Pollinators
About This Event
| Long-time gardener, Elizabeth Sheehy, will help us understand the vital role of pollinators in our ecosystem and the part played by native plants in this relationship. She will explain how we can begin to introduce more native plants into our gardens and provide us with some local resources. |
Presenter
Elizabeth Sheehy is a long-time gardener in Lindenlea who has turned to native plant gardening in the past few years, in response to our climate emergency. As the Butterflyway Ranger for the Suzuki Foundation in her neighbourhood, she provides support, information, and sometimes seedlings for the community. In her former life she was a Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa where she focused her research and teaching on legal responses to violence against women. She still pursues this advocacy work, but planting native trees, shrubs and plants provides her with solace and connections to her neighbours.
