Event Details

This month’s speaker will be Jamie Larsen, Research Scientist and Pulse breeder at AAFC-Harrow. Jamie will give us an overview of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada programs, plant and crop breeding, and what are GMO’s – good or bad?

May is also our ‘premium’ month. This is when paid members receive a 4-cell pack of seedlings. This year you will have a choice of either marigolds or cherry tomatoes.

‘Lug-a-mug’ (bring your own reusable cup) to save on waste and enjoy refreshments and snacks.

We also have door prizes, and a lending library where you can borrow gardening books and magazines for free.

Bring your gardening questions and it’s pretty certain someone will have an answer for you.

Presenter

Jamie Larson

Jamie Larsen is a Research Scientist and Pulse breeder at AAFC-Harrow.
Most of his plant breeding career has involved exploring genetic diversity in wild relatives of crop species stored in gene banks in order to develop new and novel cultivars to transform Canadian agriculture.
Since 2018, his breeding program at Harrow primarily focuses on the development of dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) for Ontario and Manitoba with a focus on developing field ready cultivars with robust disease resistance.
