Felted Fungi: A Forest Fibre Workshop

Felted Fungi: A Forest Fibre Workshop

About This Event

Spend a dreamy afternoon at Flying Moon Farm in the Ottawa Valley, turning wool into tiny woodland worlds, learning to needle felt.

Spend a dreamy afternoon at Flying Moon Farm in the Ottawa Valley, turning wool into tiny woodland worlds.

In this beginner-friendly needle felting workshop, you’ll sculpt wool from our flock and local suppliers into your own custom mushroom scene — mossy forest floors, garden-inspired toadstools, or something entirely your own. Whether your fungi lean earthy and realistic or bold and imaginative, this is a space to play with form, colour, and texture.

We’ll begin by meeting the sheep behind the wool and sharing how their grazing supports the regenerative rhythms of our forest farm and local food systems. Then we’ll settle in together and learn the foundations of needle felting — how to shape, layer, compress, and build dimension with fibre. No experience necessary. Just curiosity and a willingness to stab wool repeatedly in a surprisingly therapeutic way.

As we craft, we’ll draw inspiration from the gardens, soil, and wild edges of the farm — and reflect on fungi as quiet architects of forest ecosystems. Fibre becomes more than material here. It becomes relationship: land to sheep, sheep to wool, wool to hand.

Expect cozy forest energy, thoughtful conversation, a little laughter, and a finished mushroom scene that feels like a small tribute to land, wool, and imagination.

Perfect for:

  • Beginners curious about needle felting
  • Nature lovers and forest wanderers
  • Anyone craving a slow, creative afternoon on a women-run forest farm
