Event Details

WHEN: Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. RAIN or SHINE

Please note: Our registration policy has changed. Registration is for one individual only. Each attendee must be registered separately. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Reminder: Given the challenges of Covid-19, all attendees must wear a mask and maintain physical distances with other attendees, except members of the same household.

WHERE: Meet at Building 72 in the Arboretum at the Central Experimental Farm, east of the Prince of Wales roundabout. Please note that parking at Building 72 can be crowded on weekends.

WHAT: Most of the trees and shrubs at the Dominion Arboretum have been intentionally planted and encouraged to grow at a specific location. But the Arboretum is a dynamic plant community requiring constant maintenance to preserve this equilibrium. A steady stream of trees, shrubs, and other plants relentlessly arise in this cultivated landscape and are dubbed “volunteer” plants.

This tour will showcase these volunteer plants and discuss the implications of wild plants commonly encountered in large cities such as Ottawa–with a few surprises, given the Arboretum’s rare and unusual plant collection.

Attendance is limited to 20 to enable physical distancing and to avoid fines by complying with government regulations on group size.

Tour leader: Owen Clarkin
