Before building a DIY raised bed planter, make sure that all the necessary material is collected, so that building tasks can be performed with great accuracy.
Wooden boards should be cut before starting the work, and this cutting should be according to the desired dimensions. Here it is important to consider a golden rule, cut only once after measuring twice. Cutting is the most important part of raised planter DIY, and the importance of right cutting practices should never be overlooked.
Splinters in the garden can be greatly avoided by spending some time to sand the wooden pieces. It may take time, but it will not leave any sharp edges on the boards, so it will not cause any kind of harm to humans, animals, and pets.
Staggering holes are greatly essential to make a raised bed planter. Measuring tape and pencils can be used to mark the places for holes.Â
Although gardeners can use any good quality drill for making holes, the use of ½ inches bit drill is an excellent approach to get good results for making a DIY raised bed planter. Holes should only be 1.5 inches deep. Marking holes by using a marker is a good way to make sure that the hole is not drilled to a length greater than 1.5 inches.
The board should be tightly secured and held during the drilling process either by using a clamp or working bench. It can also be held by applying a pressure of leg, as it is also a good approach to firmly hold it in its place.
Nuts should be inserted into all the drilled holes as they are helpful to securely hold the hex bolts in their places. These nuts can be screwed to the holes by using the flat and large-headed screwdrivers. It is essential to make sure that they are going straight. Furthermore, they should be carefully screwed to the wood and should be properly flushed with a wooden surface.Â
Boards, sideboards, and hardware should be securely attached to each other. When all bolts are properly tightened, a raised bed planter should be flipped over to check that everything is at its place. Hardware screens can be cut using heavy-duty shears or wire cutters. Caution and extreme care should be taken during the cutting process, as the metal is very sharp.Â
Hardware screens should be centered horizontally and vertically on all sides of the board. After hardware attachment, support boards should also be attached to support the bottom. They should be evenly placed by using galvanized screws. Any kinds of knots on the boards should be avoided, as they are the hardest parts and may cause problems. Gardeners can always make the raised planter with legs or raised planter without legs. Both types of these planters have their own benefits. Raised planter size can also be adjusted according to preference and requirements.Â
Any recyclable, cheap, and biodegradable material such as a newspaper can be used to give a finishing touch to the raised bed planter. Other than newspapers, coconut cloth, or planter filter can also be used. Finishing touch is very helpful to improve the final looks and beauty of the raised bed planter.Â
