Many of us think of earthworms as critical to soil health, but nearly all the earthworms in Ontario today didn’t exist here 500 years ago. While beneficial in gardens and on farms, their soil-altering abilities can drastically change native habitats. Recently, ‘jumping worms’ (Megascolecidae family) have invaded temperate and tropical regions globally, posing a new threat to Ontario’s habitats and gardens.
