William Saunders, first Director of the CEF, brought peonies to the Farm in the 1890s. The most prolific and influential breeder of both herbaceous and tree peonies of all times was Saunders’s son, A.P. Saunders, a founding member of the American Peony Society. Today, there are over 600 peonies, 400 varieties and over 100 Saunders’ peonies, making it the largest collection of his peonies in North America.  Our peonies have won prizes at Canadian Peony Society and have been represented on Canadian stamps.

Tour leader: Blaine Marchand, member , Peony Team and former Gardens Director, Friends of the Farm.
