Not all treasures are silver and gold. In recent years, more and more awesome floral gems are being found here in the Ottawa Valley: elusive double Trilliums, incredible colored Trillium variants, revered double hepaticas, gargantuan bloodroots and many more marvelous beauties. The presentation, a virtual tour of the valley, will cover the discovery of these treasures. Journey with Brian for awhile as he unveils some of the floral gems found hiding in plain sight  . . .perhaps, in a forest near you.

For urban tree and shrub plantings, Tree Canada strongly encourages the use of native species from the same geographic area (i.e., “the seed source”) when possible. Non-native species may not provide the same ecosystem services (such as wildlife habitat) and can even disrupt local ecosystems through cross-pollination and invasiveness in some cases. This presentation will focus on the “right tree right place” approach, and our recommendations for working with local professionals to determine the best species mix for the planting site and climate zone. Additionally, non-native does not mean invasive, as such, this presentation will also discuss options for ornamental trees that can hold cultural value in urban areas.
