🏮 Toro Nagashi Lantern Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden 🏮
Join us for one of Japan’s most meaningful and reflective traditions as Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden hosts our annual Toro Nagashi Lantern Festival on August 23 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Toro Nagashi, meaning “floating lanterns,” is a centuries-old Japanese custom that honours the memory of loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally held at the end of the Obon season, lanterns are set afloat on water to symbolize guiding spirits back to the other world with gratitude, love, and remembrance. It is a powerful cultural practice that brings together reflection, community, and hope.
Guests are invited to participate in a special ceremony led by Reverend Ikuta at 2:30 PM, followed by the opportunity to write a personal message or dedication on a paper lantern before releasing it onto the water. Whether remembering someone dear, expressing gratitude, or simply experiencing a beautiful Japanese tradition, Toro Nagashi offers a meaningful moment of connection.
