On the tour we will aim to show some of the notable features of Gillies Grove, while allowing attendees to explore habitats of interest at their own pace. The leader will focus on botany, but all biodiversity of interest to attendees will be explored and discussed.

Gillies Grove ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/xNjNddV2jUV7faH59 ) is well known for being a rare remnant forest fragment with actual old growth trees. The site is generally considered to host Ontario’s tallest tree ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/KXiuu2JARrS11dc16 ), a White Pine over 43m (141’) tall. The site contains much other interesting biodiversity, such as other old growth trees and a rich flora of woody and herbaceous plants.
On the tour we will aim to show some of the notable features of Gillies Grove, while allowing attendees to explore habitats of interest at their own pace. The leader will focus on botany, but all biodiversity of interest to attendees will be explored and discussed. The trail system is mostly level ground, and relatively easy to navigate.
Dress for the weather, and bring lunch: we will stop for a break in the woods shortly after noon. This is a rain or shine event.
