Gardens, Our Senses and the Pursuit of Well-being
Carleton Place & District Horticultural November General Meeting
About This Event
Speaker
How do we connect with the world around us? We interact with the environment through our senses to develop a sense of self and create meaning. Tim Deslippe will be our guest speaker, and his talk will be a short stroll through the growing body of knowledge on how we connect with gardening and nature. This connection is proving to be fundamental to our health and well-being.
Jams, Jellies and Preserves Competition
The Hospitality Committee will host a Jam, Jelly and Preserves competition again this year. Members of the Horticultural Society can bring in their entries to be judged on taste, appearance and recipe creativity. The Hospitality Committee will provide tea biscuits for the entries to be tasted by all members after the judging. Making jams helps the environment by reducing food waste. It enables year-round enjoyment of seasonal produce.
Seed Giveaway
We will have a seed giveaway of seed packets that were donated, mostly vegetables: peas, carrots, beets, radishes and beans, but there are a few annual flowers and herbs. Several varieties will grow nicely in planters so everyone can grow something. So once we have planted and grown, we’ll have lots to show and eat. The seeds will be available at our November and December meetings for members to take any and all seeds for next year’s growing season. Keep the seeds in a cool, dark, dry space over the winter and plant when appropriate in the spring.
