2026 Speakers Series – Climate Change Mitigation in Canadian Field Crops
About This Event
Presentation by Dr. David Pelster, AAFC Research Scientist
This presentation will discuss the contributions of agriculture to global and national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and more specifically on the contributions of nitrogen fertilizer use towards agricultural emissions, in particular the greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide (N 2 O). We will explore how this GHG is produced and what strategies are being used to reduce N 2 O emissions from field crops. We will then examine some of the unknowns regarding these emissions and strategies to mitigate them and what is being done at the Central Experimental Farm (and across Canada) to better understand how agricultural cropping systems can help mitigate climate change.
