GardeningCalendar Newsletter Concept — Advisor Preview
We are developing a new twice-monthly GardeningCalendar newsletter for Canadian gardeners. The aim is to help gardeners understand what matters for their garden, where they live, right now.
This is an editorial prototype, not a finished newsletter. It is designed to test the balance between personalized seasonal advice, personal plant guidance, local gardening activity, inspiration, and shareability.
Naming note: our separate weekly My Garden brief can naturally use the title Your Garden This Week. For the twice-monthly newsletter shown here, this prototype uses Your Garden Now.
RIGHT NOW
Three things worth your attention
- Harvest often. Tomatoes, beans and herbs are at peak production.
- Start thinking fall. Sow spinach, lettuce and radishes for cooler weather.
- Watch moisture. Deep watering still matters during hot, dry stretches.
Mid-August in Ottawa
Summer is still in full swing, but this is the point when a little attention now can improve both your fall garden and next year’s results.
HarvestPick vegetables regularly so plants keep producing. Remove overripe fruit before it attracts pests.
PlantSow quick cool-season crops now for a fall harvest. Begin planning where garlic will go in October.
MaintainRemove diseased foliage, keep weeds from going to seed, and water deeply rather than lightly.
Look aheadNotice where colour is fading or plants are struggling. August is a good month to plan improvements.
FROM THE GARDENING LIBRARY
What should you leave standing this fall?
Not everything needs to be cut down. Some stems, seed heads and leaves provide winter interest and shelter for beneficial insects.

Three plants to check
TomatoesHarvest frequently, maintain even watering and remove badly yellowed lower leaves to improve airflow.
Panicle HydrangeaEnjoy the late-summer display. Keep it watered during dry weather and avoid major pruning now.
ConeflowerDeadhead some flowers if you want more bloom, but leave some seed heads for birds later in the season.

WORTH SHARING
One small idea to pass along
A garden does not have to be perfect to be rewarding. A thriving tomato plant, a patch of flowers full of bees, or a quiet place to sit can be reason enough to garden.
