You Are Not Done Yet – Fall Gardening and Putting Your Garden to Bed

Time to hang up your trowel, weeder and secateurs – not so quickly!  Master Gardener Mary Shearman Reid joins the Kanata-March Horticultural Society’s October 6th meeting to let us know that there’s still lots that you can do in your gardens – planting and transplanting, pruning and adding compost.  Mary will also review how to overwinter summer bulbs and of course, plant new bulbs outside for early Spring enjoyment, prepare your gardening tools for winter…and much more.

This in-person meeting will be held at the John G. Mlacak Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive, Hall B. The meeting runs from 7:30 pm – 9 pm (doors open at 7:15 pm). Non-members are always welcome for a visitor’s fee of $5, or you can become a 2026 member for $20 (individual) or $30 (couple).

From teacher to banker to garden centre owner, Mary Shearman Reid for the past almost 30 years finds herself at Green Thumb Garden Centre (SE of Merivale and Hunt Club off Bongard).  Mary grew up in a family of gardeners, worked as a gardener during her summers at university, and tries to find time to garden at home.  She uses those practical skills and knowledge as well as her business and retail skills at Green Thumb.  Mary is a member of Landscape Ontario, a CLHM (Certified Landscape Horticulturist Manager) and volunteers as a Master Gardener.  Mary enjoys teaching for the local school boards, and speaking to garden clubs, horticultural societies and filling in on the Ontario Today gardening show.
