Event Details

Water and dryland gardening can be strenuous and entails an intense and demanding period of activity right at the beginning of the season, rather than a gradual build-up. An Ottawa physiotherapy/RMT practice indicated that they have a lot of patients with gardening-related issues at the front end of the season, which is probably typical of pertinent health practitioners. However, we can minimize the physical strain and possible injury by getting in shape for gardening just as is also done for other physical pursuits.

GOWGHS member Cathi Fournier is well-qualified to provide tailored advice on that front, with her previous background as a widely-qualified full-time fitness instructor for thirty years, combined with her firsthand understanding of the physical aspects of water and dry land gardening. She will outline the specific conditioning relevant to gardeners, and identify some pertinent exercises.
