The next meeting of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society is on Tuesday, October 18th and will be held at the Pretty Street Community Centre (2 Pretty Street) at 7:30 pm.
This month’s speaker is Master Gardener Nancy McDonald who will be presenting her talk, “Fall Final Garden Fling: Activities to Beautify, Nourish and Protect Your Garden.”
This talk will break down those important fall activities listed in the Master Gardener Garden Calendar for September and October: What to plant, store, move or divide; the importance of topdressing; garden cleanup while leaving some seed heads for overwintering birds and winter interest. Also, what and how to winter protect will be discussed. There is still some fun to be had in the garden (along with some work), all of which will improve your garden for next year.
Nancy McDonald grew up on a farm in PEI and learned the practical aspects of gardening from her parents. Her grandmother’s beautiful mixed garden (aided by her grandfather’s beehives) cultivated her love of flowers. After 42 years of a fulfilling nursing career, Nancy looked forward to retirement and volunteer opportunities. She has been a member of the Master Gardeners of Ottawa Carleton for 12 years. She is also a member of Friends of the Farm and the Ottawa Horticultural Society. Nancy enjoys her small suburban garden and the birds, bees and butterflies that visit. She also enjoys making flavourful recipes in her kitchen using herbs and edible flowers from her garden.
Although Covid-19 restrictions are no longer in place, we would respectfully request that you wear a mask during the meeting.
