There are a few things to look for if you are in the market for a new backpack sprayer. If you would like more information please check out my complete guide to picking the  best backpack sprayer for your needs .

The tank of the backpack sprayer is where the chemicals are stored and pressurized. Most tanks today range from 2 to 4 gallons for the perfect balance of portability and weight. Look for a durable polyethylene plastic which provides chemical resistance and UV protection. It is essential to block ultraviolet light as it will break down your chemicals.

The backpack sprayer pump forces air into the tank creating a pressurized system to spray your chemicals, fertilizers, and cleaners. Look for high-quality seals such as Viton which offer excellent performance under pressure as well as a broad range of chemical resistance.

The wand separates the nozzle from the handle. Look for a flexible poly type wand for most applications.

The nozzle controls the flow and sprayer pattern. It is arguably the most critical part of the sprayer. Ordinary backpack sprayer nozzle options include cone, fan, and wide stream, direct or adjustable stream. Many backpack sprayers today come with several nozzle options included. A higher-end sprayer nozzle is solid bronze or brass.

Straps Or Harness

You can’t have a backpack sprayer without the backpack! The straps and harnesses make the sprayer portable and comfortable. Look for wide straps and padding especially in the larger capacity, heavier sprayers.
